A csődbe ment Kobrak cipőgyár épületében 1917-ben indult el a hadirokkantak bőripariskolája. 1921-től Hadiárvák Váci M. Kir. Állami Váci Bőripariskolája néven hadiárvákat, illetve hadirokkantak gyermekeit oktatták az intézményben. 1924-től kertészeti oktatás is folyt. A hadiárvák számának csökkenése miatt 1934-ben menhelyi gyermekek is elhelyezést nyertek az iskolában. 1935 szeptemberétől felvette a M. Kir. Állami Gyermekvédelem Váci Bőripariskolája nevet. A II. világháború idején ismét hadiárvákat oktattak az intézményben, és 1942-ben újra felvette a Hadiárvák Váci M. Kir. Állami Váci Bőripariskolája nevet. A Váci Állami Bőripariskola 1949-ben megszűnt, s az 1949/50-es tanévtől kezdve a Váci Állami Öntőipariskola működött a helyén.
