Felsőgallán született, 1912. december 13-án, Somogyi Mihály bányamunkás fiaként. Édesanyja Pintér Mária. 15 éves korától dolgozott a bányavállalat különböző telephelyein.1935-ben besorozták katonának, sorkatonai szolgálata letöltése után a X. aknában kapott munkát. Megházasodott , egy kislánya lett. 1942. március 5-én vonult be katonai szolgálatra.Naplóját egy frontszolgálati szabadsága alatt hagyta otthon, így maradt fenn. A Don környékén 1943. január 15-én esett hadifogságba, további sorsa ismeretlen.
