1905-től az I-III. osztályos leányiskolának az 1920/21-es tanévben 186, az 1925/26-os tanévben 102, az 1930/31-es tanévben 180 tanulója volt. A város 1935-ben megszüntette az iskola működését. Az iskola épületét eladták. Az iskola körzetéhez tartozó tanulókat az Ezredéves és az Olaj Utcai Községi Népiskolához (1938-ig) osztották be. Az 1766-ban alapított városi iskola végleg megszűnt.
Az iskola vezető tanítói, 1926-tól 1935-ig iskolaigazgatói: Tóth József (1864-1887), Láng István (1887-1888), Sólyom Lajos (1888-1893), vitéz Óvári Dániel (1893-1907), Szeib István (1907-1921), Lambert Vilmos (1921-1935).
