Vácott a deákvári térségben 1915-től működött elemi népiskola, hosszú ideig bérlakásban, egy tanítóval. Ezt az iskolát tekintik a mai Petőfi Sándor Általános Iskola elődjének. 1919-ben Wolkóber János tanár úr kérvényezte a két tanítóval működő állami elemi népiskola szervezését, ezt tekintik az iskola alapítási évének.
